happy birthday to moi

I turned 31 this month...and I'm ok with it...but to help cushion the blow of stepping "into" my thirties," I bought myself this beautiful personal birthday cake from The Village Grocer, a great shop in Unionville. And because Kelly and I decided that this blog is also about the little things that brighten life, I couldn't resist sharing it!

It may be hard to tell from this pic, but this mini creation is only the size of a stack of CDs, but it looks like a normal cake, and is decorated with a piece of patterned white chocolate. Not only a pretty face, but it was fairly inexpensive ($6.99) and to top it off, delish!! A pretty cake that doesn't break the bank, and tastes good too...that calls for a celebration! I guess I'll need a cake for that...

The Breast Darn Show...Period!

Last month my sisters, friends and I held a gala fundraiser to honour those touched by breast cancer. It was an event inspired by my own mother, who I lost to breast cancer two years ago. Proceeds from The Breast Darn Show Period 2007 were donated to Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada - and through some very generous Pamela Anderson-sized support, we were able to raise $37,000 for Willow! Yippeee!

It truly was a magnificent evening. Attendees stepped through limousines, onto a pink carpet amid cheering paparazzi, and then entered a breastravaganza of performance, shopping, food, jewellery-hunting and eye-candy!

From the 16-foot bra that discreetly covered the breast-like orbs growing out of The Fermenting Cellar (note: the bra was created by my incredibly crafty 80-something grandma), to the incredible performance by Juno-nominated band Shaye (among other fabulous entertainers), to the chic silent auction (I'm still wondering why I didn't bid on the first class trip to France), to the sweet potato fries served in mini take-out containers (cute!), to the boobie-shaped sandbox filled with pink sand and stones corresponding to fab jewellery - whew - it was a night to behold!

I could go on and on, but perhaps it's best for you to just view the photos on our website at http://www.breastdarnshowperiod.com/. Here is a sneak peak though: some pink carpet action, the intimate Shaye performance, and of course, some pretty hot Kanvas Ink. chicks!
